Jim purchased a Dobro, resophonic guitar in 1974 at the age of 17 and immediately started playing gigs with his older brother Mike as duo called the “Pitman Brothers”. Covering classic country rock/folk/bluegrass tunes as a duo, trading off guitar/banjo and guitar/dobro, he continued playing during college and through the early 80s touring New England for a couple of years. By 1982 Jim had purchased and learned to play pedal steel guitar playing with various local country music acts eventually joining a successful central VT group, “Jamie Lee and the Rattlers” in 1994. With this band some national touring resulted in winning a band contest in Branson Missouri and a recording of a CD in LA. After this ten year stint, Jim played with various VT bands, Tammy Fletcher and the Disciples, Abby Jenny and the Enablers, and The WDEV Radio Rangers, to name a few until finally joining the Stone Cold Roosters as a founding member in 2003. Jim performs as a member of the successful music/theatre group, “The Ground Hog Opry” and also appears as sideman instrumentalist on a multitude of local recordings over the years including Jon Fishmans’s CD, of Phish fame, “Pork Tornado”. Jim’s day job is electrical engineer.
